American-born, Montreal-raised, Adam Gopnik earned a degree in Art History at McGill where his parents Irwin and Myrna were professors. Gopnik has worked as a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1986, including stints as the magazine's art critic and Paris correspondent. Recognition for Gopnik's writing includes three National Magazine Awards for essays and for criticism, and the George Polk Award for Magazine Reporting. He has written 10 books, among them: Paris To the Moon, Angels And Ages: A Short Book About Lincoln, Darwin And Modern Life, and A Thousand Small Sanities: The Moral Adventure of Liberalism. He appeared as himself in the 2022 film Tár, in which he interviewed Cate Blanchett's character. Gopnik received an honourary degree from McGill in 2013. He was made a Chevalier of France's Légion d'honneur in 2021. He lives in New York with his wife, filmmaker Martha Parker, BA'80.
